Band and DJ Booking Basics

Shopping for the right entertainment for your wedding is not quite the same process like let's say, shopping for a wedding dress is. You need to take the time to hear your prospective Entertainer‘s at work and doing so will probably take some time, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time while shopping around! This is also a category of vendor that stays pretty busy throughout the year beyond wedding season so booking as early as possible is a good idea.

Select two or three DJ's/Band's (from of course ) that you are interested in and set up a consultation with them to get more information. When you meet with them, you should be very clear about what you want and how you want your day to run, because your DJ/Band will most likely be your emcee' making the announcements to keep your reception flowing the way that you want.

How early should you book?
This is actually a category that books up fairly early because of other events that they might have going on. Give yourself as much time as you can. If you have it, give yourself 12 -18 months prior to your date. Don't forget that just like most other companies you deal with, they will more than likely also ask for a small deposit up front in order to hold the date. Find out if there is a possibility for you and your husband-to-be to hear them do their thing live. Seeing them in their element can make a big difference. (Not to mention it would be a fun date for the two of you!)

What type of different package options do they offer and what/who do they include?
If you choose to go with a DJ, some companies have a staff of different DJ's to choose from. Be sure find out who is available on your date and try to make some time to meet him/her before your big day just to ensure that you feel comfortable with this individual. If you have any specific requests on which DJ or band members you want on your wedding day, be sure to mention that during your first consultation.

When you're ready, book it.
The process can be long and exhausting but once you've decided, do everything you can to reserve the company you've chosen as quickly as possible. Nothing will disappoint you more than going through the whole process, setting your heart on something and then waiting a week to call and finding out they are booked on your day. It happens, but don't let it happen to you. Once you've decided, pick up the phone, get a check in the mail, sign a contract and reserve the date. If you followed these steps, rest assured you'll have great entertainment for your reception.
